We have lived in our flat for around four years now, so the time has come where each room is in need of a little refresh. The first room we have tackled so far, is our Girls Bedroom.
I have been wanting to add another colour to their room for a good while now. So after months and months of procrastination. We finally got round to doing it during the lockdown. The wall where their bunkbed resides, always felt undone to me. Something was missing, it was too plain. Have a look, im sure you would agree.

Would Mint Green Even Work?
I decided to add another colour to break up all the pink. Now I pondered for a moment on which colour to choose. But looking at the colours in their room, I thought Mint Green would look great with the pink. It would be a nice feature to bring everything together.
You already know that I had to visualise it, to be sure my idea would work. So I quickly made a moodboard of what I was thinking.
As you can see, I chose to paint 1/3 of the wall Mint green. Now that looked good. But to add a little pop between the two colours, I thought it would be cool to add a gold line (their room has accents of gold).
Mini Moodboard
So the wall design was finalised and in addition to that, I also planned to add a couple wall shelfs and update the prints. To make this plain old wall feel new again.
so many shades...
If you have ever had to choose paint before, then you know it can be difficult to find the right shade. I looked on Instagram and online to try and find the colour that would match, the existing Mint colour in their room.
It took a few searches, but I did find a shade that I thought would work. But me being me, also ordered a few other options just in case the screen was fooling me lol.
I did a swatch of them all on paper and with the help of my Insta pals we chose the best option.
We decided Dulux Trade Soft Fauna Four worked well. It was the exact match to the current accessories within the girls bedroom.
Next I decided rather than finding a metallic gold paint for the line that ran across the wall. I would use ‘my oldie but goodie’ Washi Tape! ( come on its so much quicker and easier, than paint).
LET THE PAINTING BEGIN
Firstly we removed all the items that were on this wall and pushed everything out the way in preparation for painting. We used Frog Tape to mark out the areas we wanted to paint. Initially I only wanted to paint one wall, but hubby suggested we continue the lines one the others wall too (don’t tell him I told you this, his head might explode. But this was a great idea and turned out nice when we finished lol).
After we sectioned off everything it was time to paint. We did one coat of an old white paint we had in the flat. Just to ensure that the mint paint was true to colour.
Once this was dry, we then painted 2 coats of Soft Fauna 4 (each coat should dry first before applying more paint). This Dulux Paint was mixed at our local paint store.
The next day we just added the finishing touch. The Gold Washi Tape. I placed the tape on the wall, and pulled the tape slightly all the way down. I used my hand to press it on the wall. I cut of the excessive pieces with a scalpel and Voila! The wall was finished.
What We Used:
Frog Tape
Gold Washi Tape
Dulux Soft Fauna 4
Paint Roller
Paint Brushes
Scalpel
AFTER
Finally my fav part…Styling. I added a few extra accessories and prints to this area. I brought the Book Shelves from Argos, to give my girls more storage for their fav books. I also added some new prints that I purchased on Etsy (links are on my Pinterest board). The Laundry Basket was from Amazon.
I am absolutely obsessed with this wall now. I love how it turned out, the wall is no longer flat. So much more interesting to look at and most importantly the girls love it too! We have had some lovely cosy reading times, now that their favourite books are more accessible.
It was a very simple change, but it has made a big impact to their room. So if you have a plain wall that you want to transform, why not try out a design with paint and some tape.
I found your blog on pinterest as I am in the middle of doing my girls room and I love the idea of the gold washi tape, on my way to order it from amazon :).
Beautiful words can’t explain how awesome this is you make it look so cool for the girls
Thank you so much. We really enjoyed transforming this area of their room and the main thing is they loved it too.
